Abstract

The study examined the siday (a form of Waray poetry) to address the lack of local materials in a contextualized curriculum. The study aimed to analyze the cultural symbolism of the siday and relate it to competencies in Filipino. Using "content analysis," the patterns in the creation of siday were examined. These were then interpreted through the thematic analysis model, validated by three experts in Waray literature and Filipino instruction. The findings revealed that the siday reflects the identity and way of life of the Waray community. It also demonstrated its relevance as a localized resource for teaching Filipino in Grade 7. Thus, incorporating the siday in teaching serves to promote cultural education, highlighting the importance of literature in advancing local knowledge and enhancing Filipino teaching strategies.
