Tanjong Malim, Malaysia — Members of the AsTEN Journal of Teacher Education (AsTEN JTE) Editorial Board convened at Scholar’s Suites, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), for a three-day planning workshop focused on advancing the journal’s alignment with global academic publication standards. Delegates from ASEAN partner institutions gathered under the theme “Editorial Excellence & Operational Efficiency” to review journal workflows, refine review mechanisms, and establish a clear operational roadmap toward Scopus-level indexing benchmarks.
Day 1: Key Performance Indicators and Workflow Optimization
The first day of the workshop focused on reviewing performance metrics and improving operational efficiency. Editor-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bukhori Muslim opened the proceedings, followed by presentations from Managing Editor Dr. Marie Paz E. Morales and Assistant Managing Editor Dr. Adonis P. David, who shared key diagnostic indicators and the workshop framework.
Throughout the day, Dr. Morales and Dr. David facilitated working sessions where delegates examined initial screening protocols, managed submission backlogs, and identified ways to streamline review workflows for greater publishing efficiency. The day concluded with a welcome dinner hosted by UPSI at Scholar’s Suites.
Day 2: Quality, Sustainability and Strategic Planning
The second day centered on long-term policy development, editorial standards, and regional collaboration. Morning sessions led by Dr. Morales, Dr. David, and Mr. Ramos focused on strengthening the journal’s reviewer network, updating evaluation frameworks, and establishing unified editorial decision rubrics.
In the afternoon, the board conducted strategic planning sessions to define operational milestones for the coming quarters, with the shared goal of achieving a faster and more responsive submission-to-decision process. The workshop concluded with a guided campus tour hosted by UPSI, highlighting regional partnership and institutional collaboration.
Leadership and Participating Institutions
The planning workshop brought together editorial leaders and institutional representatives from across the ASEAN network. Leadership was provided by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bukhori Muslim of Indonesia, Dr. Marie Paz E. Morales of the Philippines, Prof. Dr. Adonis P. David of the Philippines, and Assoc. Prof. John Carlo M. Ramos.
Participating institutions included the National Institute of Education–NTU (Singapore), the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Philippine Normal University, and host institution Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (Malaysia).
